UCS: Services: Waterproofing

Unified Comfort Systems promotes education and management of water infiltration, ensuring health and safety of the home as well as making the home a better place to live.

Interior Water Management System

Managing water infiltration from the inside avoids costly excavation of the exterior of a home. Using a system of drain piping, cove paneling and weep-holes, the water is channeled effectively to the outside of a home via a sump pump discharge system. The wall is covered either with a 1’, 4’ or full white shield, giving the basement a clean appearance. The perimeter footer-tile piping has gravel placed over it and is re-cemented smooth to the existing floor. This type of system is guaranteed for the life of the structure.

Exterior Water Proofing System

On existing homes, the exterior issue is excavated to the footer and the existing wall cleaned. All visible voids are filled with hydraulic cement. The Tuff-N-Dri® XTS waterproofing emulsion is then sprayed onto the wall and covered with a barrier drainage / insulation board. The area is then backfilled 24-hours after application. While a life of the home warranty is given to homes when the system is installed during construction, no warranty can be given on existing homes due to settling and non-discovered voids.

Down Spout Lines

On existing homes that currently dump water directly to the ground from a down spout, lines can be installed to route the water away from the home. The ground is excavated 18” to 24” and solid PVC piping is installed and run to a location to be determined.  If necessary, gravel pits for the discharge lines to funnel to can be installed.

French Drains

Some homes have grading that cannot be adequately re-routed. This improper grading allows water to run towards a home’s foundation. A French drain can be installed to re-route the water. The ground is excavated 18” to 24” and a gravel base is installed. On top of the gravel, perforated PVC piping is installed and more gravel placed on top of the piping. The water travels down the improper grading and is forced into the French drain. The piping re-directs the water to a location to be determined.  If necessary, gravel pits for the discharge lines to funnel to can be installed.

Sump Pump Systems

Homes that require water discharge can be outfitted with a sump pump system. In a corner of the home owner’s choosing, the floor is broken up and a hole is dug for a sump crock (basket) to be installed. Once installed, the existing floor’s drain tile is connected to the crock, enabling water to flow into the basket. A pump is then placed in the basket and
connected to an electric outlet. A discharge line is then connected to the pump and run to a down spout line. The area around the crock is then re-cemented to a smooth finish.

Wall Bracing and Rebuilding

In the event a wall is bowing, I-beam bracing can be installed directly into the concrete floor and attached to the home. In conjunction with the waterproofing system, these braces will prevent the wall from bowing any further, providing stability to the home. If the structural integrity of the basement wall is in question, the wall can be completely rebuilt.
